Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Malaria remains a major public health challenge in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas like Takum LGA, Taraba State. Public health advertising has been identified as an effective tool in raising awareness about malaria prevention, symptoms, and treatment options. Advertising campaigns that promote the use of insecticide-treated nets, proper sanitation, and early treatment have shown to significantly reduce malaria incidence. According to research by Adebayo et al. (2023), public health advertising has played a crucial role in educating communities about malaria prevention and encouraging behavior change. This study examines the role of public health advertising in combating malaria in Takum LGA, assessing how advertisements influence public awareness, prevention practices, and malaria-related behaviors.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite various efforts to combat malaria in Takum LGA, the region continues to experience high malaria incidence rates. Public health advertising has the potential to reduce these rates by educating the public about preventive measures and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. However, the effectiveness of public health advertising in combating malaria in Takum LGA has not been thoroughly explored. This study aims to assess the role of public health advertising in raising awareness, changing behaviors, and reducing malaria prevalence in Takum LGA.

1. To assess the effectiveness of public health advertising in raising awareness about malaria prevention in Takum LGA.

The study focuses on the role of public health advertising in combating malaria in Takum LGA, Taraba State, and does not extend to other diseases or regions.
